We are pleased to announce RegattaSport as the official licensed merchandiser of the Niagara 2021 Canada Summer Games.
RegattaSport, founded by Chris Cookson and Joe Camillo, will supply the Niagara 2021 Canada Summer Games with its merchandise leading up to and during the Games. Known for producing high-quality athletic wear, Cookson and Camillo are excited for the opportunity to showcase their merchandise for the Games. “The merchandise we develop for these Games will be fun, attractive, and unique that both athletes and fans will love. We’re confident the people of Niagara will take enormous pride in wearing the 2021 Games merchandise,” says Cookson.
An added bonus? RegattaSport is a local, Niagara-based company that produces 100 percent of its custom apparel in Canada.
The partnership between Cookson and Camillo naturally began as rowing competitors and teammates, but it quickly developed into a business partnership that has lasted over 30 years. In 1988, the first RegattaSport store opened in a 250 square foot space in Port Dalhousie. Since then, RegattaSport has become internationally recognized as a leader in developing performance gear for all levels, with operation facilities running out of St. Catharines and Hamilton.
From an outsider looking in, RegattaSport may have seemed like an underdog, but that’s not how Cookson and Camillo viewed it. When they submitted their proposal, Cookson and Camillo were confident they had the experience, desire and capability to go after such an opportunity. “Business isn’t that different from sport in a lot of respects, one of them being you can’t let competition determine your path to success,” says Camillo. That experience was quickly recognized by Steve Katzman, Chief Revenue and Marketing Officer for the Niagara 2021 Canada Games Host Society. “The RFP process canvassed previous Games’ suppliers, in addition to suppliers from across Canada and Niagara. In the end, the proposal from RegattaSport embodied the logistics as well as the spirit we were looking for; they checked all the boxes. RegattaSport has an outstanding reputation for providing quality athletic merchandise, as evidenced by the fact that their founders are former world class rowers; and so they have a clear understanding of the importance of athletics and what these Games will mean to Niagara,” says Katzman.
Things are already moving quickly for Cookson, Camillo and RegattaSport as we gear up for the holiday season; beginning November 24, Niagara residents will be able to purchase a wide variety of Summer Games clothing and other merchandise in The Pen Centre, Niagara’s largest indoor shopping mall. Equally excited and committed to serve the community and the Niagara Region is John Bargagnolo, The Pen Centre general manager. “We are thrilled to be working with the Summer Games team and we are more than proud to have their merchandise sold in our shopping centre,” says Bargagnolo.
Coming back to where it all began, Cookson and Camillo are proud to join the Niagara 2021 Canada Summer Games team with RegattaSport, and be part of the lasting legacy it will leave on the Niagara Region. “As Niagara residents, former competitive rowers and general fans of sport, we are honoured to be a part of the Niagara 2021 Canada Summer Games,” says Camillo. “We’ve seen first-hand the positive impact that events like this can have on a community. This is our region too.”
